Do not attempt to configure your modem via a wireless connection. Only configure your modem by being connected to it with an Ethernet cable.
First turn your modem over and make note of the WEP and WPA key written on the bottom. This is the key you will need to enter into your laptop.
- Open a web browser to http://192.168.1.254/
- If prompted for a username and password enter Administrator for the username and leave the password blank.
- On the left menu click Home Network
- Under Wireless click the entry that appears as 'WLAN:<xxxx>'
- On the new page on the upper left corner click Configure
- Under Security then Encryption change the selection from disabled to the encryption method you wish to use. Our suggestion is to use WPA if you have a laptop or device manufactured within the last 2-3 years. For older devices choose WEP. It is best to check with the device before hand to determine what encryption methods it supports.
- Click Apply
You should now try to connect to the wireless, in most instances Windows will automatically ask you for the encryption key. Depending on what method of encryption you chose in step 5 then you will enter that key that you wrote down earlier. In some instances you may need to reboot the laptop in order for it to 'see' the new encrypted signal.
Actually connecting your wireless device to the modem is beyond our scope of support. If you run into difficulties you will need to contact the support for your wireless device.
